Body Building A Mumbai-based model, fitness trainer and instructor Karuna Swami, who has also launched her Fitness Modeling Program and a rare coaching center for fitness enthusiasts, became the winner of the uncommon but prestigious Miss India Fitness Physique 2012. The event was organized by the Indian Body Building Federation (IBBF) at Bidar in Karnataka. Karuna has been trained in the USA by Ms Marika Johansson, a celebrity trainer. The IBBF has selected her to represent India at the Asian Fitness Physique championships, which would take place in China in September 2012.

International Sports Events in May 2012



Sailing Star World Championship
The sailing Star World Championship was held in Hyeres, France from 2nd May to 12th May. Brazil remained on top of the medal tally with one gold, followed by Great Britain and Denmark as they bagged silver and bronze. It was a tight competition, but in the end, Brazil took the slight edge over the two.

Golf - Players Championship
The Players Championship of golf was held in Ponte Vedra Beach, USA. The championship went on from 10th to 13th May. Matt Kuchar of the USA won the title with a score of 275, and took everyone by surprise. Martin Laird and Rickie Fowler gave him very stiff competition.

Swimming European Championships
The swimming championships among the European countries was held in Debrecen, Hungary from were held from 14th to 27th May 2012. Hungary, the host country, topped the medal tally by bagging nine gold medals and an overall tally of 26 medals. Germany followed Hungary and remained in the second position by bagging nine gold medals and an overall 24 medals. Italy stayed in the third position by bagging seven gold medals and an overall tally of 23 medals.

The European Aquatic Championships, 2012 was scheduled to be in Vienna, but the venue was changed because of the Eurozone crisis. The Swimming events took place between 21st and 27th May in Debrecen; Diving events started on 15th and ended by 20th May in Eindhoven and Synchro competition was held from 23th to 27th May also in Eindhoven.

Archery European Championships
The European Archery Championship was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from 21st to 26th May. The host country Netherlands bagged three gold medals and remained in the first position of the medal tally. Italy stood a good second by bagging two gold medals and an overall tally of seven medals. The third position was taken by France, which bagged two gold medals and an overall tally of five medals. It was a very tough archery championship after a time and a few events had very surprising results as well.

BMX cycling world championship
The BMX World Championship was held from 23rd to 27th May, 2012 in Birmingham, Great Britain. It was a very exciting edition of BMX cycling that one could have ever witnessed. It had everything in it to make it an exciting championship. France stood on the top of the medal tally with an overall five medals, of which, one was gold. Second in the medal tally was the United States of America, which had an overall medal tally of three, out of which one was gold. The country that was third in the medal tally was Australia. Australia had bagged one medal. This championship had some surprising outcomes in terms of a few match finishes.

Tennis Grand Slam - Roland Garros
Tennis Grand Slam and the 111th edition of French Open was a must watch tournament this time around, as it was very competitive and full of dedicated players. Maria Sharapova of Russia and Sara Errani of Italy played against each other in the women's singles final. Maria Sharapova won the final very comprehensively. In the men's singles Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal were the two competing for the prestigious clay court trophy. Nadal played a fine game and won against Djokovic in a well-fought match. The winners of the singles finals in both the categories (men's and women's) received $1,250,000, each.
