ICC Cricket World Cup is one of the most important international sporting events, as this tournament is watched by people throughout the world. Though Pakistan team missed the first World Cup in 1975, it marked its presence in the second World Cup in 1979. Its first match was on June 9 at Leeds cricket ground, where the team was up against Canada. It won the match by 8 wickets. Over the years, Pakistan cricket team has turned in a strong performance: it was the semi-finalist four times, in 1979, 1983, 1987 and 2011. It lifted the trophy in Cricket World Cup during 1992. At that time, it was under the captaincy of Imran Khan. Moreover, Pakistan was also a runner-up in the 1999 World Cup, where Australia won the final match in the battlefield. Other than this, Pakistan also reached till the quarter-finals twice in 1996 and 2015.

ICC Cricket World Cup is one of the most watched sporting tournaments of the world. In 1975, England was the first nation to host and participate in the Cricket World Cup. At that time, it was played in the form of a series of one-day matches, which involved 60 overs per side.

So far, England has hosted Cricket World Cup five times. But, interestingly, the country has never won the trophy. In the 1975 World Cup,the England cricket team featured in the opening match of the tournament, where it defeated India. Thereafter, the team reached the semi finals, where it was beaten by Australia.

The England team was defeated in the finals by the West Indies in 1979 by 92 runs. The venue for the final match was the Lord's cricket ground of London. Whereas, in 1987, Australia won the match over England by 7 runs and subsequently in 1992, Pakistan marked its victory by 22 runs.

Afghanistan's national sport is Cricket. This particular sport is widely played in the country since 1800. However, the war ravaged country debuted in the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 only. In the group stage, it lost the matches it played against Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka. However, it won the match against Scotland by 1 wicket. Interestingly, Afghanistan has never participated in any tournament at competitive level in England till 2019.

In 1975, Australia was one of the teams that played in the Cricket World Cup being held for the very first time. This tournament was held in England during the month of June. The Australian team was led by Ian Chappell for this World Cup tournament. The very first match that Australia played was with Pakistan at Leeds. Some good batsmen who were included in this tournament were Rick McCosker, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell and Alan Turner. Interestingly, Australia won the toss and got an opportunity to engage in batting first. This eventually made Australia victorious in their first match. The team reached the finals, but were defeated at the Lord's stadium by West Indies, who lifted the 1975 World Cup trophy.

Bangladesh first appeared at the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1999 as an Associate team under the captaincy of Aminul Islam, against New Zealand, at County Ground in Chelmsford. And lost by 6 wickets to the New Zealand team. In subsequent group matches too, they lost to the West Indies and Australia. However, on May 31, 1999, they defeated the strong Pakistan team by 62 runs, which cemented their position as a serious cricketing nation. They were granted the Test status the very next year. And the team has been playing in every Cricket World Cup since then.

In the 2007 World Cup, they defeated India in the very first group match. Later, Bangladesh team reached the 'Super Eight' while India had to exit at the group stage itself. In 2011, Bangladesh co-hosted the World Cup along with Sri Lanka and India. And in 2015 World Cup, it reached the Quarter-finals.

New Zealand was a part of the first ever Cricket World Cup which is also called Prudential Cup 1975, organised by the International Cricket Conference (ICC) in England. The team played its first match against East Africa at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on June 7, 1975 and won by 181 runs. They performed really well in the series but were defeated by the West Indies in the Semifinals. In that tournament, the top run scorer from New Zealand was Glenn Turner with 333 runs, and the best performer was Dayle Hadlee for taking eight wickets in four matches. Glenn Turner also emerged as the only batsman to hit two centuries in that tournament.

South Africa's journey began with the ICC Cricket World Cup in the year 1992, after being restored as a Test playing nation in 1991. Before that, they were not allowed to play international cricket due to the prevalence of apartheid in the country. As a first time international team, they really performed well by qualifying for the Semi-finals, by bagging 5 out of the 8 matches in the Round Robin Stage. However, they lost to England in the Semi-finals. Since then, they've participated in every edition of the tournament. Though South Africa is considered to be a strong team, it could never bag a trophy in the World Cup.

In 1996, the team reached the Quarter-finals. In 1999 and 2007, they lost to the Australian team in the Semi-finals. In 2015 again, they reached the Semi-finals, but were defeated by the New Zealand team.

Sri Lanka has been playing in the Cricket World Cup tournament with great enthusiasm since the very beginning. The first World Cup match featuring the country was held on June 7, 1975. This match was played against West Indies at the Old Trafford stadium at Manchester. In that tournament, West Indies won by 9 wickets.

So far, Sri Lanka has bagged the ICC World Cup once. They recorded their first and only win in the year 1996; this tournament was also known as the Wills World Cup 1996. This World Cup was hosted in the Indian sub-continent. India hosted 17 matches, which were played at 17 different venues, whereas Pakistan hosted 16 matches which were played at 6 different venues. Sri Lanka itself hosted 4 matches which were enthusiastically played at 3 different venues. The Final match was played in Gaddafi stadium, situated in Lahore, Punjab.

In this tournament, Sri Lanka was up against Australia in the Finals. Chasing a total of 241 for 7, they beat Australia in the 47th over to win the match. The team captain was Arjuna Ranatunga, while Player of the Match award was won by Aravinda de Silva.

Moreover, Sri Lanka was subsequently runners up in the 2007 and 2011 ICC Cricket World Cups.

The West Indies Cricket Team was formed to represent the British Commonwealth Caribbean region, and is administered by Cricket West Indies. The players are drawn from different countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean. The team's first triumph came in the very first ICC Cricket World Cup 1975, where they succeeded in bagging the trophy. Captained by Clive Lloyd, the team showed tremendous performance in that tournament. First they won all the three matches against Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in the group stage. Then in the Semi-finals, they scored 158 runs which was required to qualify for the Finals. And won the Final match by defeating Australia by 17 runs at the Lord's in London on June 21, 1975.

For ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, West Indies has played a tri-nation series along with Ireland and Bangladesh from 5th May to 17th May. These ODI's (One Day International) fixtures are a part of the warm up matches before the main tournament.
