Indian squad was restructured completely. In 1983, the team was led by the new captain Kapil Dev and vice captain Sunil Gavaskar. India started their 1983 cricket world cup campaign in England (host country again) by beating the might West Indies by 34 runs. This turned out to be a major turning point for Indian one-day cricket. India went on to beat the then favourite West Indies team in the final to win the World Cup.
