India ICC World Cup History 1979

The 2nd edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup was again organized in England. In 1979 too, the Indian cricket team was led by Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan. India started this year’s campaign against the mighty West Indies in Birmingham’s Edgbaston stadium but lost after the deadly spells of Michael Holding and Andy Roberts, followed by an unbeaten century by West Indian opener Gordon Greenidge. 1979 ICC Cricket World Cup turned out to be a nightmarish campaign, as Indian cricket team failed to win a single match and crashed out of the tournament in the group stage.
